Flight 14 goes for orbit — and for the catch

Two consecutive precision splashdowns in the Indian Ocean on Flights 12 and 13 satisfied the condition Musk had set publicly, and SpaceX is now clear to try the hardest manoeuvre in the programme: bringing the Ship itself back to the chopsticks at Starbase. Flight 14, targeted for late August, would also be Starship's first true orbital insertion and its first deployment of operational V3 Starlinks — three firsts stacked into one launch.

Grok 4.6, and the economics of a frontier model

Grok 4.6 arrived on August 12 with a 500,000-token context window, a 1753 ELO, and a 61 on the Artificial Analysis Intelligence Index — up from 56 for 4.5 and level with the best models anyone else is shipping. The number that matters most may be the smallest one: roughly $2 per million input tokens, about half what rival frontier models charge, with the model already default in Grok Build and available across Cursor, OpenRouter, Vercel and Cloudflare.

STARLINK

The constellation comes down to earth

On the August 4 call SpaceX laid out Starlink Mobile: a genuine consumer carrier built from the 65 MHz of EchoStar spectrum, paired with a ground layer of small, low-cost base stations backhauled by Starlink dishes rather than conventional towers. Direct to Cell already runs on 650-plus satellites across 22 countries and roughly 60 handsets — the satellites came first, and the terrestrial network is being built to meet them.

Cybercab enters production as the map keeps widening

Tesla began building Cybercab — the purpose-built two-seater designed as the workhorse of the Robotaxi fleet — with production units already running engineering drives on public roads and employee rides underway at Gigafactory Texas. Meanwhile Miami, Orlando and Tampa joined the unsupervised map, FSD attach rates hit a record with more than 55% of new North American deliveries, and Lithuania, Estonia, Denmark and Belgium came online in Europe.

V3 hands, and a chip built for a body

Optimus V3 is ramping at Fremont with Gen 3 hands carrying 50 actuators across 22 degrees of freedom, a ~2.3 kWh pack, and AI5 — an inference chip taped out in April and designed Optimus-first rather than borrowed from the car. Grok handles the voice layer, so the robot that walks the factory floor and the model that writes the code now share the same lineage.

NEURALINK

Twenty-seven people, and a surgery that never breaks the dura

The cohort Neuralink calls its cyborg family has grown to 27 participants, averaging around 6.5 hours of independent daily use — browsing, gaming, running CAD, no calibration team in the room. In May the company completed its first transdural implant with Dr. Lozano at UHN in Toronto, the least invasive version of the procedure yet, while Blindsight moves toward restoring sight rather than only restoring control.

The Elonnovate Manifesto

Build like the future is watching.

Most people accept the world as it is. Elonnovators ask a harder question: what would it take? Then they pay it. This is a tribute to first-principles thinking, to shipping the impossible, and to the audacity that turns science fiction into supply chains.
